Five Tips for Choosing Effective Trade Show Giveaways

Your business wants to make a big splash anywhere it goes, but when you are surrounded by the booths of your competitors, making a strong first impression becomes even more crucial. Trade show giveaways are one way many companies choose to attract people to their booth and stick in prospective customer and partners’ minds after they have left. But to do this well, promotional products must be well thought out before being purchased.

As you consider what you should hand out at your next event, here are five tips to help you find the most effective promotional products.

1.      Know your audience.

The type of gift you give away will set the tone for what you hope to accomplish with the recipient. If you simply want to stay in their mind, small promotional products such as pens or key chains may be sufficient. But if you want to make a bigger impression, give out bags or apparel.

2.      Decide on your product.

The item you give away sends a message to the recipient about what your product offers. For example, if your product or service makes the lives of your customers easier and less stressful, a stress reliever may be a good promotional item. Or, if you provide a product or service in the beverage industry, a bottle opener may be more appropriate. Choose an item that sends a clear message about what you do.

3.      Have multiple products.

At many booths, fun games and prizes are handed out for coming over to interact with the staff. You may choose to have multiple products for this and give bigger prizes to people who win a game and smaller prizes to give away to anyone who stops by. In either case, you will be attracting people to your exhibit and will have an open door to start a conversation.

4.      Give out incentives.

If the goal of your booth is to drive sales, you may want to hand out incentives to passersby. A fun way to do this is to hand out a business card holder and put a coupon inside. Doing this will encourage sales without being pushy, and it will keep you in the minds of customers after they have returned home.

5.      Track your efficacy.

It is important that you keep track of what works and what does not. Find a way to track sales from the event, such as through a promotional code or a unique website that will allow you to know what worked and what did not for future events.
